Paliam
is an ancient Nair family in erstwhile Cochin State now in Kerala. The
Main Tharawad is located at Chendamangalam in Ernakulam District, Corporation
of Kochi. It was the biggest joint Hindu Family till partition in 1952.
Number of members at the time of partition in 1952 was 213. The deed was
registered in 1956. This appears to be the biggest partition deed of Travancore
- Cochin/Kerala. Now in 1999 there are 443 members. The family follows
the matriarchal or matrilineal system.
Female members are wed primarily to Namboodiri bramhins,Cochin Royal family, other Royal family members of erstwhile Tranvancore and Malabar areas and other prominent Nair tharavads. |
